AUC#59 - Lot 257 : Silver
British India
George V, Original Money Bag of 2 Anna coins, Silver, 1917, Calcutta Mint. The cloth bag was used for transportation of Mint coins of 2 Annas by the Bombay, Baroda and Central Railways. The lot consists of 3 items: original 2 Annas Silver coin from the bag, the Cloth Bag and a Chit Receipt of the BBC Railways confirming the Risk Note for transportation of the coins in the bag. This is an unknown chapter of British India coins wherein freshly minted coins were transported in a consignment by the Railways from the Calcutta Mint to another destination for circulation. To find such a piece of British Raj history is extremely unlikely and Exceedingly Rare.
